Hi All,

Just bought the missus a 99 Galaxy 2.3 Ghia X, as we are about to have our third child and I thought we'd need something a bit bigger than my Zafira:-

Its got 100K miles but hopefully it will be okay for the school run and its in very good nick considering age/mileage.

The dealer I got it from has put in a Kenwood head unit which is horrendous to use so i'm looking to put one of the original 2007R's in with an autochanger, plus the stalk should work with an original unit. So i've got alot of reading of old threads to see if anyone has done it before.

Also, i'm not sure whether the Cruise Control works as when I drove it home, it wouldn't keep the speed when I pressed the 'Set' button.

So i'm looking forward to asking lots of questions.

welcome to the forum, almost everything has been covered before, and the answer to your cruise control problem will be here somewhere - you just gotta find it - best place start is the FAQ's page (in the technical section IIRC)

Welcome obee!

new members have restrictions on the board until they post 30 posts. You can still view images however by downloading the thread you want to view ;)

A fine looking motor you got there .... the best Galaxy they made ;)

Cruise control problem will no doubt be the vacuum hose that has perished where it connects onto vacuum pump (common fault and 2 mins to fix). Pump is located in near side front wing - remove n/s/f indicator to access. Pretty sure there's a link in the FAQ for it, if not it's been covered many times if you search for cruise control.

Enjoy the site, and the foybles of Galaxy ownership :)

Ah .... another new member restriction!

Restrictions like this are only in place to prevent so much spam from flowing into every area of the forum. You will also only be able to start topics in the new member section un til you have hit the magical 30 post mark. You will be able to (sensibly) reply to other posts in every section though to boost your post tally.

ps Where in the country are you? Fancy a karting day in the Midlands in March? ;)

apparently not - if you post what you like to go in your sig I will do it for you

NikpV: Ta for the offer, i'll have a think.

The wife has told me she has had some problems starting the car. She puts the key in and turns and nothing happens. After a number of goes it does start but anyone got any ideas as to why it doesn't start first time ? Its an auto by the way.

first guess would be the inhibitor switch on the selector shaft, then relay 30? and then finally there's the immobiliser? hit the search engine for a great deal more info on all the usual suspects ;) Edited by wolfie

as wolfie says inhibit switch, if it doesn't respond try moving the selector lever away and back to park (will it start in neutral - never tried) and try and start, I am assuming that you get no reponse from the key turning

When she turns the key, the dash lights up but nothing else. I'll ask her to try moving away from park and back again to see if it makes a difference.

Its going in for a service next week, so i'll ask them to look at it.

If its the inhibitor switch or relay30, are they expensive to fix ?

inhibitor switch can be adjusted or by passed! but not recomended! relay 30? not sure of the price but it wont break the bank! ;) someone did IIRC pull it apart and clean up the terminals! both jobs are DIY' ers if your ok with swinging a hammer

The inhibitor switch is active in both Park and Neutral so if your having problems set the gearselector to neutral and Place your foot on the brake pedal as it is often linked to the neutral position before start is enabled, some european model Galaxies have this as a requirement so the old age problem of Brake Light Switch could also be an issue here, have you checked your brake lights are working ? Welcome obee ...... nice motor mate .......so apart from the initial teething problems you get with any second hand car, does the Mrs like it? Still, hell of a car for the money! Edited by Bleeno

mumof4: How do you edit posts as I have piccy of it with number plate blocked out ?

Bleeno: She seems to like it so far. Hopefully (touch wood  ) we can get the starting issues sorted. We got it for 2.2K + her old escort, so not a bad car for the money. Keeping fingers crossed

Many thanks, you're all so helpful.

I remember checking the brake lights before we bought it but I will check again just to make sure.

I'm going mention it to the garage (local not ford stealer) when it goes in for a service on Monday. When I bought it the dealer said it has 20 months of a warranty remaining and once we had it serviced, we could change the name on the warranty.
